Getting Sealed at the Rome Italy Temple: Everything You Should Know Before Your Wedding Day

There are some temples that are beautiful, and then there are temples that quite literally stop you in your tracks. The Rome Italy Temple is one of them.

The first time I visited, I was the photographer for a BYU study abroad through Italy. We spent nearly two weeks exploring Rome before traveling to Capri, Florence, Venice, and the Italian countryside. Out of everything I experienced during that trip, walking onto the grounds of the Rome Italy Temple is something I'll never forget.

If you're planning to get sealed in the Rome Italy Temple, first of all—what an incredible place to begin your marriage. It's peaceful, breathtaking, and unlike anywhere else I've visited. Whether you're just starting to plan your destination wedding or are already counting down the days, here are a few things I learned that I think every couple should know.

The Rome Italy Temple Truly Feels Like an Oasis

One thing that surprised me was just how peaceful the temple grounds felt.

Rome is busy. It's full of energy, history, and people. Then you arrive at the temple, and everything slows down.

The grounds are beautifully maintained, with wide walkways, mature landscaping, and plenty of open space. Even though we visited twice—once on a bright sunny day and once during a rainy afternoon—it never felt crowded.

The temple itself almost glows. On a sunny day, the white stone reflects so much light that it almost seems to shine. It's one of the brightest, cleanest-looking temples I've ever seen, and photographs there have such a timeless feel because of it.

When we visited during the rain, our group went inside the temple to perform baptisms. Despite a small language barrier, every temple worker we interacted with was incredibly kind, welcoming, and eager to help. It was a simple reminder that no matter where you are in the world, the Spirit inside the temple feels familiar.

The Visitors' Center Is Worth Spending Time In

One thing I don't think enough people talk about is the visitors' center.

It's absolutely beautiful.

Inside are stunning statues of Christ with His Apostles and disciples that create such a peaceful atmosphere. Even if you've visited other temple visitors' centers, this one feels unique and is worth taking the time to experience while you're there.

Getting to the Rome Italy Temple

If there's one practical piece of advice I'd give every couple planning a Rome Italy Temple wedding, it's this:

Rent a car or plan for transportation.

The temple isn't located in the heart of Rome.

The first time I visited, we took a bus. The second time, we used public transportation, and while it worked, it took significantly longer.

On your wedding day, the last thing you want is to feel rushed or stressed because of transportation delays. Hiring a taxi, Uber, or renting a car is well worth it so you can enjoy the day instead of worrying about getting there.

The Best Time for Wedding Photos

Because the temple is so bright white, lighting makes a huge difference.

When we visited, we were there around midday and into the afternoon. While the temple was still stunning, I immediately found myself imagining how beautiful it would be during golden hour.

If you're planning your sealing, I would recommend scheduling your photos either:

  • Earlier in the morning

  • Later in the afternoon when the light is softer

That softer light beautifully complements the white stone and creates a more flattering look for portraits while avoiding the harsh overhead sun.

There's Plenty of Room for Family Photos

One thing I noticed right away was how much space there is.

The large staircase leading up to the temple is perfect for extended family photos after your sealing. Everyone has room to spread out without feeling cramped, making it much easier to organize large groups before moving into bride and groom portraits.

For destination weddings where family may be traveling from several countries, having that space is a huge advantage.

Why I Love Destination Temple Weddings

Maybe it's because I love traveling.

Maybe it's because every destination has its own personality.

Or maybe it's because couples who choose to get married somewhere meaningful are usually focused on what matters most.

Whatever the reason, destination temple weddings have my heart.

Italy has a way of slowing you down. Between the incredible architecture, quiet mornings, amazing food, and centuries of history surrounding you, it's already an unforgettable place to visit. Adding a temple sealing makes the experience even more meaningful.

Planning Your Rome Italy Temple Wedding

If you're traveling to Italy for your sealing, I'd encourage you to build in a little extra time.

Don't just fly in the day before and leave immediately afterward.

Spend a few days exploring Rome, enjoying the food, wandering the historic streets, and soaking in the experience together. Your wedding becomes more than just one day—it becomes the beginning of an adventure you'll remember for the rest of your lives.

Although I haven't photographed a wedding at the Rome Italy Temple yet, visiting the temple twice gave me an even bigger appreciation for how incredible it would be to document a sealing there.

I already know the grounds, understand the lighting throughout the day, and have experienced the peaceful feeling that makes this temple so special.

If you're planning a sealing in the Rome Italy Temple and you're looking for someone who loves destination weddings, values genuine moments over stiff poses, and wants your photos to feel timeless years from now, I'd be honored to be part of your day.

Italy has a special place in my heart, and I would love nothing more than to return to photograph one of the most meaningful days of your life there.
