How to Plan a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings have become increasingly popular over the years as couples opt for a more intimate, relaxed, and memorable experience for their special day, especially after this little thing called COVID. Whether you dream of getting married on a tropical beach, in a historic castle, or in the heart of the city, a destination wedding can make your dream come true. Here are my two cents as a destination wedding photographer-

  1. Choose your destination: Consider factors such as weather, accessibility, and the type of atmosphere you want for your wedding. Do you want a tropical beach setting or a more urban environment? Do you want a remote location or a place that's easily accessible for your guests? Once you've narrowed down your options, visit the destination and get a feel for the area to make sure it's the right fit for you.

  2. Determine your budget: Destination weddings can be more expensive than traditional weddings, so it's important to determine how much you can afford to spend before you start making plans. This will help you narrow down your options and determine the type of venue and vendors you can afford.

  3. Choose your venue: Once you've determined your budget, start looking at venues in your destination. Consider the size of the venue, the amenities it offers, and the services it provides. You may also want to consider the local laws and regulations regarding weddings in the destination, as some countries have specific requirements for foreign couples.

  4. Select your vendors: From photographers to florists, there are many vendors you'll need to choose for your destination wedding. Research local vendors in your destination, and read reviews and ask for recommendations from friends and family who have been married in the area. Make sure to communicate your expectations clearly with each vendor, and consider having a local wedding planner to help you navigate the process.

  5. Plan transportation and accommodations: Once you've chosen your venue and vendors, it's time to start thinking about transportation and accommodations for you and your guests. If your venue is in a remote location, you may need to provide transportation for your guests. Consider booking a block of rooms at a local hotel or resort, or consider renting a villa or beach house for everyone to stay in.

  6. Send out invitations: Once all the details are in place, it's time to send out invitations to your guests. Be sure to include all the necessary information, such as travel and accommodation details, local activities, and any other information that will make their trip more enjoyable.

  7. Prepare for the big day: Make sure to bring all the necessary items for your wedding, such as your dress, tuxedo, and any decorations or accessories. You may also want to consider hiring a wedding planner to help coordinate everything on the day of the wedding.

Destination weddings can be an incredible and memorable experience for you and your guests. By following these steps, you'll be well on your way to planning the perfect destination wedding that you'll never forget.
